TIME TO EAT
Because I believe a kitchen is the heart of a family childcare home as well as any other home, I want to share information about our mealtimes. Everyday the children and I have a specific routine that entails:
I attempt to use organic produce as much as possible and try to use food grown within the United States. We also grow our own organic garden in the back yard and/or purchase produce in season and freeze.
I am also part of the USDA food program which monitors menus/food served and trains on nutrition and food safety.
It is not unusual to make books featuring the children. Here is one about breakfast at Ms. Kathryn's. Enjoy!
- Hand washing and bathroom use
- At table each child expresses what they are thankful for
- Thankful song (sometimes with tin whistle)
- Meal served
- Conversation starters
- Opportunity to make own recipe with food
- Opportunity to practice good table manners
- Discuss nutritional benefits on food we are eating using poster placed behind table
